The Opportunity

We are looking for Hot Work Sentries/Tank Cleaners to join our Devonport, Plymouth Team on a Permanent Contract. You will be part of the Team supporting us to meet our contractual requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform duties of a Hot Work Sentry/Tank Sentry whilst hot work operations are being conducted.
  • Monitoring of hot work areas to prevent fires, build-up of smoke or combustible materials. Ensuring equipment checks on extinguishers are complete.  Full PPE & RPE are worn. Record and action any failings.
  • Ensure a cool down period is conducted at end of shift to prevent a fire, also the area is cleared and cleaned of any combustible materials.
  • Providing a detailed shift handover and ensure all logs are checked and completed daily.
  • Ensure your presence on the job is fully covered whilst hot work operations are going on, if you require a toilet break or any other break the job is stopped.
  • Communicate effectively through line Supervisor and raise any concerns.
  • Ensure that you observe and comply with all Kaefer directives, regulations and guidelines for effective supervision.
  • To be prepared to undertake any reasonable duties and responsibilities that will benefit the company.
  • Ensure all Health and Safety regulations are known and strictly adhered to at all times.
  • To act as designated person with emergency and response musters on site evacuations.

Health & Safety Duties

  • Participate in any communication activities through formal and informal channels on safety matters to ensure that there is a free flow of ideas.
  • Ensure that the Kaefer safety image is reflected positively through your actions.
  • Ensure that you have received the necessary training so that you can competently carry out your duties and responsibilities. 
  • Adhere to the safe system of work processes prior to the commencement of the work activity.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring that the plant and equipment is maintained and fit for purpose.
  • Raise any concerns over Health and Safety breaches in accordance with Company Procedure.
  • Group Safety Support: You will be required to work closely with the Group Health and Safety Team who are available to provide safety advice and support.  Furthermore you will be required to ensure that safety initiatives are implemented within your areas of control.

Critical Performance Measures (CPMs)/Objectives

  • Initiative – to actively check areas and action tasks before they become an issue.
  • Communication – to report issues to Line Manager.
  • Health & Safety – to follow procedures and report issues.
  • Be conversant with local fire regulations/procedures and other relevant mandatory safety controls.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • A general understanding of Health and Safety legislation.
  • To be able to demonstrate a sound level of communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate a degree of judgement,  discretion and confidentiality when assessing information and issues.
  • Produce quality work within the agreed working timescale and work to tight deadlines.
  • Team player, who can demonstrate enthusiasm and use their own initiative.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • To be able to direct and motivate a dedicated workforce, ensuring standards and targets are fully achieved within given timescales. 
  • Strong motivator who is customer and team focused.
